GREENS BUSH- LIGHTWOOD CREEK

Service Description

Situated between Arthurs Seat and Cape Schanck on the Mornington Peninsula and only 90 km from Melbourne, Greens Bush is the largest remnant of bushland on the Peninsula having been acquired from the Greens family in 1974 from the National Trust. We start our hike from the Baldry’s Rd carpark and follow the circuit loop, joining onto the Two Bays Trail. Following the trail south, we head towards Long Point Looping around the longer circuit before heading back along the trail to our starting location. Long Point offers scenic eucalypt forest with bracken understorey, before opening to views across grasslands and gullies of coast banksia and blackwood. With a diverse range of vegetation, this green wedge provides a wildlife haven and ideal location for nature hikes. Lush ferny undergrowth and tall grass trees create the most picturesque understory for the towering gums of Greens Bush. Once a private allotment, now entrusted to Parks Victoria, Greens Bush is home to eastern grey kangaroo’s, koala’s, ringtail possums and sugar gliders and a plethora of birdlife. This is a perfect little known wilderness escape on the Mornington Peninsula; it's ideal for anchoring into mindfulness concepts and exploring the benefits of Nature therapy. This idyllic location is sheltered from the wind and protected from the sun, with great walking tracks, fern gullies and impressive eucalyptus forests combined with several crossings over Main creek. • Start/Finish: Baldry's Rd Carpark, Main Ridge • Distance: 13-14km return • Time: Approx 4 hrs. • Grade: Moderate with some sandy trails, obstructed trails/ tree roots, hills, and steps • Bring: Approx. 1.5 L of water per person, any medication required, fruit/snacks & a positive attitude An email is sent with all exact meeting locations and any other relevant information a day prior to departure.
