Values Framework- Discovering What's Important To You

Values are defined as principles or standards of behaviour; one's judgment of what is important in life. How often do you consider your values? What is important to you and the way in which you are happiest in life?


For me, it’s hiking. I value the therapeutic benefits of being active outdoors, my holistic health; Mind, Body & Soul. The sense of adventure and achievement I feel when I accomplish a challenging hike. Enjoying these activities with my family, friends and clients and the freedom I feel when I am in the open air.


When presented with a question, values are the answer to what’s important in YOUR life.

Values are what dictate your actions; they provide direction in your lives.


Defining and assessing your values provide awareness to the direction of your lives and what is important to YOU.


Seeking transparency around your values assists in constructing goals that promote positively framed health behaviour changes.


Often our values and actions aren’t consistent, this is when we feel discontented, conflicted in what we want and what we have.


We feel helpless; however, it’s identifying the discrepancy and taking action in the direction of what we want.





What does all this mean?


CLARITY; becoming clear on what’s important to YOU and importantly WHY.

More often than not when we feel discontent, it’s because we are not living in line with our values.


Many don’t stop to reflect and review or even aware of what values they believe are important.


Every person is unique in their values and will rate these differently to even their most loved ones.


Now ask yourself;


Are your actions aligned with your values?


Could your values act as an obstacle for you reaching specific goals? How can you address this?


Do you believe that your personal values affect your health and wellbeing, particularly attitude and behaviours? Is this negative or positive... Explore this.


It’s a healthy approach to evaluate your values each 6-12months to ensure that your clear in defining what’s important to you and WHY.
