What We Intend On Doing

Holistic Hikes 'Pick it up and pack it out' project intends to run small groups of up to 10 people who volunteer their time to hike the trails of Wilsons Promontory National Park, picking up rubbish and packing it out to set location in order to protect the wildlife and environment. Holistic Hikes will provide all packs, gloves and necessary equipment in addition to food, tents/accommodation, and transport throughout the 3 days for each group.

Given the significant amount of trails and beaches that require the clean-up – we propose that a different section is completed each month with each subsequent group tending to a section of the trail.

The concept is to inspire people to get outdoors, reconnect with nature and bring awareness to the environmental impact that human waste is having on our wildlife and wilderness areas. Our mission is to provide in innovative path to addressing environmental issues whilst empowering people with the knowledge and skills to explore our National Park and wilderness areas responsibly.

Given the remote location and access to sections of the park, a boat is likely to be incorporated in the beach clean up to aid with removal of the larger washed up debris such as large fishing nets that are unable to be packed out and disposed of conscientiously.

How Is It Innovative?

An immersive hiking experience that delivers impactful value to both the volunteer in terms of providing an educational experience regarding environmental conservation, and encouraging people to volunteer with the benefits of a guided hike through Wilsons Promontory NP.

  • Aims to increase the number and diversity of people volunteering in National Parks in a new and different way that creates value ecologically and personally through altruistic actions.

  • Delivering value in a guided hiking experience that gives back to Nature in a unique way that attracts new volunteers.

  • Providing a new approach to volunteering and environmental issues, and the chance to experience a hiking experience through the Park.

  • Delivering value in a guided hiking experience that gives back to Nature in a unique way that attracts new volunteers.

  • Creating a multi day hiking experience whereby volunteers are immersed in the environment with focus on the impact and removal of human rubbish.

Our Mission To Protect Parks

By engaging people in something that they love or wish to experience through hiking the trails, the project aims to introduce unique and creative solutions to address the issue of human waste on our beaches and trails.

Our legacy is to provide inspiration through education and empowerment with a hands-on approach to effectively:

  • Significantly reduce human waste in Wilsons Promontory National and marine parks.

  • Create ongoing volunteer opportunities to protect our Parks and reduce rubbish on the trail.

  • Identify areas and establish other volunteer opportunities in other regions of Victoria’s park and forests.

  • Collect and analyze feedback from volunteers to continually adapt Holistic Hikes in order to build an enduring volunteer aspect to our business that gives back to the environment.
