BUSHRANGERS BAY - 18+km DAY HIKE

A more challenging hike to explore the Iconic bay & surrounding trails

Service Description

Explore an iconic section of the Two Bays trail whilst mindfully immersed in Nature. Discover the therapeutic benefits of spending time outdoors, mindfulness concepts, and the role of nutrition for optimal holistic health; A nature hike with a difference. This historic section of the Two Bays trail that departs from the Cape Schanck heading northeast towards Bushrangers Bay. The trail weaves through coastal tea trees, along the cliff tops and undulating hills. Neighboring cattle in paddocks and rolling hills hug the coastline. Many native animals call this coastal vista home; Kangaroo, echidnas, blue tongue lizards, and a plethora of birdlife, including the trail's own blue wren, featured on the Two Bay Trails signs. We detour past the Bay, crossing over Boneo Road and into the forest trails of Long Point. We loop through the grass tree forest, creating a more challenging day hike on the lesser-known trails of the Mornington Peninsula before returning along the trail to explore the iconic Bushrangers Bay. The sandy trail forks where the descent to the Bay is taken via numerous steps. The staircase opens to the beach where Main creek runs into the bay. The creek can be crossed easily at low tide and this is where I invite you to join in a sensory meditation that engages the receptors on the bottom of your feet. Here we then cross, mindfully wandering along the beach to the rock pools where many photographic opportunities afford. We will take rest here and enjoy a sensory mediation before ascending the stairs and returning along the trail to the boardwalk of Cape Schanck. We will check out the Cape Schanck walk before returning to the carpark. The picturesque bay derived its name from 2 escapee bushrangers that sought passage on a ship from Van demons land, Tasmania as it is now known, to the rugged coastline now bearing their title on the southern coastal Mornington Peninsula. Learn their story and discover how hiking by the ocean is beneficial to your holistic health. • Start/Finish: Cape Schanck carpark • Distance: 18+km return including Cape Schanck boardwalk • Time: Approx 6-7hrs • Grade: Moderate - hard with some sandy trails, hills, and steps • Bring: 2L of water per person and any medication required. Some Fruit/snacks are supplied however bring a packed lunch if you prefer.
